Palaces at Bangkok

Among the palaces of Bangkok, The Grand Palace is the most famous. It is a complex of buildings. It served as the residence of Thailand’s monarachs from the 18th century onwards. Construction of the Palace began in 1782, during the reign of King Rama I. Similar in layout to the previous capitals, this royal complex included royal courts and administrative blocks. The Palace has been constantly expanded and many additional     structures were added from time to time.

 The complex includes is the Chakri Mahaprasat Hall and Wat Phra Kaew, which houses the Emerald Buddha and is the most important temple in Thailand. The present King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, with his Queen Sirikit, however, resides at the Chitralada Palace.
